Strange how life just goes on isn't it?
Yesterday evening, the day my mum-in-law passed away, I was sitting in our living room as Mrs W and the kids slept upstairs, exhausted from getting up in the middle of the night and the day's upsetting events.
So what should I do? I felt guilty for even thinking about everyfilmin2011.
But, the alternative to watching a movie was to put on the telly and see yet more about the Murdoch-inspired crisis.
To be honest, I'm all phone-hacked out - I've even done three radio interviews on the subject, wearing the hat of my day job.
So I reached for a Turkish DVD. I didn't know much about Ask Tesadufleri Sever, other than it looked like a romance (ugh!) and was released, briefly in the UK in February.
Like most Turkish movies, it didn't stray on to screens beyond north London and I wasn't able to see it at the time.
Thus, I had to wait until now before catching up with it.
And I am rather glad I did.
So far, my experience of the Turkish cinema hasn't been that great. But this bittersweet love story had a clever script.
It all starts on the day Deniz and and Ozgur were born. Ozgur's parents were in such a rush to get to hospital their car pranged into Deniz's parents' vehicle, prompting her mum to go into labour too.
We move on more than 30 years and Deniz (Belcim Bilgin) is an aspiring actress and Ozgur (Mehmet Gunzur) is a famous photographer.
He holds an exhibition of his late father's work and she is drawn to a photo ... which turns out to be of her, aged eight.
What neither of them realise, when they first meet, are the amazing parallel lives they have led.
However, there are two hurdles to their love: she has a long-term boyfriend and he has a secret illness.
Omer Faruk Sorak neatly intertwines the current story with flashbacks to when the two were growing up. Nuran Evren Sit's script shows how the smallest of moments can have the deepest impact on life. There are a couple of twists which I didn't see coming at all.
The movie is also helped considerably by lively performances from the leads, particularly Bilgin who shows that she is far more than just a raven-haired beauty.
So, a movie had done it again.
It had given me the chance to immerse myself in another world, which is just what I wanted to do for a couple of hours yesterday.
And, despite the sombreness of my mood, I would give Ask Tesadufleri Sever 7.5/10
